I've about had it with this bike. 1500 miles, all original except for the jets that I just put in. I have been chasing this weird issue with the idle; when it's cold, it fires up and runs great. As soon as it gets warm, the idle starts wandering between 1200 and 1600 rpm. I've rebuilt the carb, including a very long soak in SimpleGreen Pro HD and ultrasonic cleaning. Checked all o-rings and replaced several that had cracked. Float level checked and in spec. Float valve is in good shape. I rejetted it while I was in there; ProCycle kit, running 42.5 pilot @ 2.5 turns (tried several other positions with no change), stock main jet with one shim. The intake manifold is in great shape after soaking in methyl salicilate for a week; no cracks and very supple. Replaced the notorious plastic choke fitting with a billet aluminum one. The only thing on the carb I haven't done is the air cutoff circuit cover, but it looked great. Valves are in spec.
What could I be missing? I know the stator is a weak point on these bikes, but I tested all circuits and they are all right in the middle of the range for resistance. There was only one circuit that I wasn't sure about just because I couldn't find a straight answer on what the behavior should be across those two wires. I'm trying to avoid loading up the parts cannon, but I'm about to just replace everything and be done with it, fixed or not.
