From old curtains to new skirt
Cute skirt for spring.
Pattern: Julia Skirt by Maryel Studios (on etsy)
Fabric: thrifted cotton curtains
Modifications: added a lining, turned and stitched all the seams.
The pattern felt a bit "fast fashion" to me - it tells you to zig-zag/serge the edges of all the pieces before you start, on place of finishing the seams as you go. I've never seen that before and, as the inside of the skirt is likely to be seen because of the slits, I wanted to do a more high end finish.
Also, the pattern sizes are very big. I sized down, based on the measurements of a skirt I already own, and it's still a bit too big. Oh well. This project got me sewing again after a long break, and found a use for this fabric that I've had for years. So all good. I've got loads more fabric, so might try making some trousers or a matching blouse.
