Schengen travel insurance dilemma

I’m applying for my third Schengen visa with Netherlands and I want a longer visa validity this time around. My previous visas were 45 days and 50 days single entry. I’m visiting my partner in June/July and also plan on spending the Christmas holidays in Netherlands as well, hence, I want to try my luck with a 1 year multiple entry visa. If I’m granted 6 months MEV, I’d be glad. A friend said I stand a higher chance if I get a 1 year travel insurance when applying for the visa. how true is this? Compared to getting insurance for the trips in June and December.. does it make a positive impact on my application and chance at getting a 1 year MEV? they cost about $350/yr while the exact dates would only cost me about $50. Would appreciate your opinion.
