Dui and social work

I’m 26F in California who is on the journey to get my bachelors and hopefully masters in social work so I have a lot of years to go but I recently got a misdemeanor dui (no accident or injuries thankfully) I’m completely ashamed of it and is out of character for myself, I’ve done everything before the courts have even asked for me to do and I documented rehabilitation and sobriety.

I’m really working hard to change and show that this was a one time mistake and I take full accountability, eventually I will try to get it expunged as soon as possible.

I currently work for a county hospital and will continue to do so throughout my journey in hopes to stay and become a social worker within the county system.

With that being said even after expungement, will having this dui be a problem at some point for example school, background checks for clinical/internships, job opportunities, licenses etc ?

Hi I’m a 27f in SoCal I have a background in healthcare including CNA, ultrasound and recently LVN. My goal had always been to be a social worker or counselor but was discouraged because of the amount of schooling (ridiculous I know) but I now feel more mature and ready to commit going back to school.

I’m basically going to start from scratch in terms of getting my college degree, will need to complete GEs at community college then hopefully transfer out to CalState LA for bachelors and eventually hopefully masters.

What’s the time line from start to finish assuming for a full time student, is there any advice or guidance that anyone can share for me? Or if anyone just wants to share their journey please share ! Thank you

Early March 2026 got pulled over by CHP for expired tags they saw I had open containers then had me do FST, an hour after being arrested at the station I blew a .20 then two minutes later .19

I hired an attorney who cost me a lot and feel like I’m getting little to no updates, had to ask about when the new DMV hearing was.

I’ve been big on mitigation as I’m also a nurse so I put myself in the worst possible situation.
My mitigation package includes:
- 3 month DUI program (to be completed before first court hearing)
- 60+ AA meetings
- IOP completed at Kaiser for alcohol addiction
- 7 character letters (including from pastor and LAPD officer)
-MADD completed
-Sobriety tests showing consistent abstinence from alcohol

I also have GERD which I was thinking of hiring a toxicologist to show that I had really bad and documented acid reflux weeks prior, during and after my arrest. Could this help explain the high BAC ? I was drunk but not blacked out and I do remember everything (I know doesn’t really mean much)

Also thinking of doing restricted license after DMV hearing to go from work and home only to avoid paying for IID, or will the court order me to do that anyways?

Can anyone give me their experiences with high BAC outcomes in LA county (DTLA court house)?
Just want to see what I’m up against from both DMV and Courts. Thank you 🙏🏽
