Need advice regarding Lenovo Legion thermal repair/PTM situation.

My Legion laptop is only a few months old, but I started getting severe overheating and Nvidia driver crashes ("nvlddmkm 153"). During gaming/rendering the GPU sometimes reaches 98–100°C and Blender was randomly closing/crashing.

I contacted Lenovo support, provided Event Viewer logs and video proof, and after escalation they decided to send an on-site engineer for:

- motherboard replacement

- thermal repaste

- inspection

Now my concern is about the thermal material.

I heard many Legion models use PTM7950/PTM-like phase change material from factory. If the engineer uses normal thermal paste instead, will it affect long-term temperatures/performance?

Should I specifically request PTM material, or is good-quality normal paste acceptable for a Legion gaming laptop?

And they replacing motherboard will be brand new or refurbished.

Would appreciate advice from other Legion owners or people who had motherboard replacements/thermal service done by Lenovo.

Finally got my setup to a point where it feels clean enough to share. I’m currently using a Lenovo Legion 5 Gen 10 with a 15.1" OLED 2.5K display, powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 260 and RTX 5060, paired with 32GB RAM and 1TB storage. For the external display, I’m running an Alienware AW2725DM, which really elevates the overall experience.

For cooling, I’m using a Kero Arctic cooling pad, but since it didn’t come with a dust filter, I added a custom one to keep things cleaner. The desk itself is a custom 60x30 inch DIY build that I’m still in the process of finishing. I’ve kept the accessories simple for now with a basic keyboard and mouse (planning to upgrade later), a large desk mat, and a couple of small plants to add a bit of life to the setup.

I tried to keep everything minimal while adding a bit of lighting for aesthetics. Cable management is still a work in progress, and I’m planning a few upgrades soon.

Would love some suggestions—do you think a monitor arm would be better than the current stand? Is the lighting balanced or too much? And any ideas for cleaner cable management?

Still early stage, so I’m open to all feedback 🙌
