17 Month Falling Asleep on Own

My baby girl is a big girl and we’ve been having trouble rocking her to sleep. I noticed that sometimes she would be playing in her crib and just fall asleep, so we started implementing this at naptime - put her in her crib either toys, bottle, pacifier and leave. She whines for a little bit and might jump up and down but usually falls asleep.
We’ve started doing this at naptime too and I just feel so guilty letting her whine. Is this okay to do? If she starts crying we go get her but we will let her whine. I don’t want her to feel abandoned.
I also read something one time about how secure children don’t have emotional support stuffed animals because their parents are their emotional support and she was a doll she cuddles when we leave. Does this mean she can’t depend on us? She doesn’t want us to leave but she doesn’t *usually* cry for us (again, we got get her if she does).

Baby girl
Is going to be 17 months in May. At naptime we have moved away from rocking to sleep and she plays herself to sleep in her crib.
At bed we are still rocking to sleep but feeling like it’s time for a more “big girl” routine. However, I just know that she’ll scream if we just put her in her crib like we are able to do at naptime.
Any advice on how to transition her? The rocking to sleep is not working like it used to.
