Tim ♥️

Tim is such a great example of a developed character. He came in as Faye’s absent dad and the writers developed him so well.

He can do comedy and drama, the perfect corrie character.

Plus I adore his friendships and relationship with Sally.

It’s reminded me again of the importance of developing characters so well care about them

I’ve just rewatched The Road to Coronation Street again and honestly it just makes me angry seeing what Coronation Street has become.

That programme captured everything that made Corrie special. Real people, proper northern humour, community, warmth, heartbreak that actually felt earned, and characters who felt like people you knew. You could see how much love and care went into creating it. Tony Warren created something grounded in working class life with sharp writing and emotional depth, not whatever hollow mess it’s turned into now.

Modern Corrie feels like it’s written by people who fundamentally do not understand the show. Every week it’s another ridiculous crime storyline, gangster rubbish, serial killers, constant misery, or characters behaving completely out of character just for shock value. The humour is forced, half the dialogue sounds unnatural, and the street barely even feels like a community anymore. Nobody talks in the Rovers properly, nobody seems connected, and characters disappear for weeks unless they’re involved in some over the top plot twist.

What frustrates me most is that you can SEE in The Road to Coronation Street exactly why the show lasted decades. It wasn’t explosions or sensationalism. It was ordinary life written brilliantly. The writers trusted the audience enough to care about small moments and relationships. Now it feels like they think viewers have the attention span of toddlers unless there’s a murder every six months.

And the saddest part is the cast are often genuinely talented, but they’re given absolute garbage to work with. The soul of the programme has been stripped out by people chasing headlines, social media clips and issue based storylines instead of character driven storytelling.

Rewatching it honestly just reminded me that the people who built Corrie would probably be heartbroken seeing what’s been done to it.
