Alright, so I’m definitely new to the montero community and wasn’t honestly expecting as little information as there is on these vehicles especially when it comes to doing a factory swap. I recently acquired a 2nd Gen 95’ SR with a cracked head. My initial intention was to do a simple 3.5L swap from a 99 2.5 gen. This was nowhere near as straight froward as I expected. (Mitsubishi does Mitsubishi things!) Anyway…. I finished the swap over the last weekend, now idk if anyone out there is attempting to do a similar swap in these trucks but I wanted to at least make a post going over some of the things necessary if this is something other enthusiasts are attempting.
YOU WILL NEED:
- Custom Motor mounts
- (unless you want to spend your life in wiring hell) an early 2nd gen harness and ecu
- a 3.5L 2nd gen power steering pump and lines
- a 3.5L 2nd igniter, and coil packs
-trim the factory air box your truck came with
- a 2nd gen charge harness
- 2nd gen throttle body
- custom or adjustable throttle cable
- your will have to fabricate the exhaust between the manifold and cat
- none of the factory starters will exactly match up, so you will need to either clock your starter or slot the hole in the bellhousing
I think that’s the majority of it. But I wanted to atleast put this out there on the internet should some other fullhearty idiot believe this that swap is a good waste of money.
