Yvonne Abraham had a good opinion piece about this in the Boston Globe today. Here's the link from Press Reader.
It's not a complicated thing.
Quincy's mayor since 2008, an "ignorant man in power," snatched $850,000 in taxpayer funds to commission two ten foot tall statues of Catholic Saints Michael and Florian for Quincy's new public safety building.
Why? Assertions were made in court before state Justice Sullivan issued his preliminary injunction to halt the construction of the statues.
In Massachusetts there's always some Sullivan somewhere doing something significant.
Justice Sullivan wrote:
> The Court is not persuaded by the Mayor's self-serving assertions, particularly in light of his curious actions of commissioning the statues without public knowledge.
MA Constitution Article 3 amended by Article 11:
> all religious sects and denominations...shall be equally under the protection of the law; and no subordination of any one sect or denomination to another shall ever be established by law.
So there is that whole constitutioney thing that the federal government ignores with its ignorant man in power.
Abraham wrote that the state Supreme Judicial Court will begin to hear the case on Wednesday May 6.
