Locked out of Instagram because of 2FA + Microsoft Authenticator failure. Facebook Account Center workaround also blocked.

TL;DR:

- Old phone died physically

- Microsoft Authenticator restore keeps failing

- No backup codes

- Video selfie verification keeps failing

- Facebook account is linked to Instagram

- BUT Meta keeps showing “You can’t make this change at the moment”

Long story short:

My old phone (POCO X4 Pro 5G) got physically damaged. The screen detached completely, but the phone itself still powers on. Unfortunately, my Instagram 2FA was stored in Microsoft Authenticator on that phone.

I had cloud backup enabled in Microsoft Authenticator, but for the last 3 days restore has been completely broken with:

“Something went wrong. Please send logs.”

I tried:

- different phones

- different networks

- older Authenticator APKs

- emulator

- reinstalling

- password reset

- Instagram web login

- video selfie verification dozens of times

Nothing worked.

Then I found posts saying you can use your linked Facebook account to access Instagram backup codes through Account Center:

Facebook → Settings → Accounts Center → Password & Security → Two-Factor Authentication → Instagram → Backup Codes

My Facebook and Instagram have been linked for years.

The interesting thing:

I CAN see my Instagram account inside Meta Account Center.

It recognizes the account correctly.

BUT whenever I try to:

- access backup codes

- change 2FA

- switch to SMS

- disable authenticator

I get this error:

“You can’t make this change at the moment.

This is because we noticed you are using a device you don’t usually use and we need to keep your account safe.

We’ll allow you to make this change after you’ve used this device for a while.”

What’s confusing is:

- this also happens on my laptop/browser that I’ve been using for 5+ years

- same Wi-Fi/network

- same Facebook account

- same Instagram linked account

So now I’m stuck in this weird partial-access state where Meta clearly recognizes me, but still blocks all 2FA-related actions.

Has anyone successfully gotten past this cooldown/security restriction?

If yes:

- how long did it take?

- did you just wait?

- did you keep using Facebook normally?

- did Meta eventually allow backup code access?

Any help would seriously mean a lot right now.
