We've got a problem

This is how you know we’ve got an ageism problem in this generation, and honestly, it’s getting exhausting.

My friend called me saying she was at a festival/concert thing with her friends, and some guy walks up to her and asks how old she is. She says 26, and he goes, “Oh my God, you’re 26? You don’t look it. What are you doing here?” Turns out he’s 20.

I’m sorry what? Since when is 20 and 26 some massive generational gap? You’re literally both in your 20s. It’s six years, not six decades. Relax.

And it’s not even a one-off. Last year, I had a classmate ask me how old I was. I said 22, and she goes, “You don’t look 22.” Oh really? What exactly was I supposed to look like bones and dust? A fossil? Mind you she was 19.

I’m three years older than you. One, two, three. That’s it. Not a lifetime. Not a transformation. Just three years. Almost like I was 19 three years ago. Almost like I’m still in my early twenties. Almost like we’re… the same age group. Shocking, I know.

At this point, it’s just tiring. Like, is it really that hard to not make everything about age? There’s genuinely no need for all that.

Age shaming

if you’re 18 or 19 and stepping into adult life, you don’t get to judge people in their 20s or 30s for going out, clubbing, or enjoying festivals.

Fun doesn’t have an age limit. If you think people should stop enjoying life just because they’re older, then maybe you shouldn’t be there either. Let people livewhat is this obsession with age?

A friend of mine was at a festival, and someone asked her how old she was. She said 26, and he replied, “Oh my god what are you doing here?” He was 20.

You’re literally six years apart. You’re both in your 20s. Why are we acting like this?

It’s Okay to Enjoy What Makes You Happy

Imagine thinking that a social media app and comics should be limited to a certain age that could never be me.

At 60, I’ll still use Snapchat if I want to. At 70, I’ll still use Instagram. At 80, I’ll still use TikTok if those apps are still around. At 70 I'll still be reading comics if I feel like it.

I think everyone should be free to use whatever platforms they like, regardless of age. It’s a personal choice, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

At the end of the day, there are much bigger things to focus on than what apps people choose to use.

You’re Not Too Late for Anything

I’ve noticed that whenever I open this subreddit, some of the posts can feel very anxiety inducing. And while I completely understand that people need a space to vent and share their struggles, I just wanted to offer a small, reassuring reminder.

You’re not too old.

You’re not too old to go back to school. You’re not too old to play video games. You’re not too old to enjoy the things that once made you happy. You’re not too old to start singing, acting, or exploring something completely new. You’re not too old to go out, have fun, and make memories. You’re not too old to change your career or take a different path.

Most of us here are still in our twenties. And realistically, we have decades ahead of us 50+, 60+, 70+ years, maybe even more years to grow, change, and experience life. There is still so much time.So if you’ve been feeling like you’ve missed your chance or fallen behind, you really haven’t. Life doesn’t run on a strict timeline, and there’s no single “right” moment to start something meaningful to you. You’re allowed to enjoy your life at any stage and it’s never too late to begin again.
