I've just discovered that loop switchers exist and I think I might want one. I'll have many questions, but the first one is how do I set up my 12-14 pedal pedalboard with something like a Boss ES-5? I get keeping "always on" stuff off, but what about gain stacking? Modulation? Just curious how other people do it, trying to understand and get some ideas. Thanks.

Edit: Thanks for all the insight and inspiration, but I feel like a loop switcher, although super cool and useful, isn't right for my current needs and setup.
