TLDR: Guy I’m talking to insulted a date he went on because she “scrubs toilets for a living”. So do I and I feel really hurt.
I 33f have a solo cleaning business and I cleaned for him 44m for about a year. It was evident we liked each other the whole time, but neither of us pursued it because of the cleaning arrangement. I got to know him pretty well over the course of a year and have thought really highly of him this whole time.
About a month ago, we got to talking and decided to end the cleaning agreement and pursue each other romantically. I was thrilled! Things have been great until last night. We were on the phone talking about a mix of anything and everything. We were talking about past dates and he mentioned this one he went on and he really was not feeling it with the girl. And then he threw in “ plus she scrubs toilets for a living” I could tell he was not saying it in a kind or neutral way. He immediately stopped and was like “ oh no I hurt your feelings. I’m so sorry.” I didn’t want to make a big fuss so I just shrugged it off and said it was ok changed the subject.
But it’s not ok. It really took the wind out of my sale, especially because that’s literally how we met. I am a mom. This is my business. I built it myself and I am proud. But now I feel… Low. Sad. Unworthy.
I asked him about it again this morning and he did apologize again and he told me he has he got most respect for me. He said she was not like me at all and that she was a horrible person and that’s why he said it. I still think it was classist and gross to say, but I didn’t tell him that.

Nugget has an attached third eyelid, which is why his eyes look a little bit watery. Our vet said he is fine and it does not bother him. I wipe his face regularly just didn’t before this photo cause it was too cute. End of disclaimer :)
