Throwaway account because friends know my real one. I (27F) just tested positive for chlamydia, but have been monogamous for 2 years. My partner (35M) and I started having symptoms around March 9. We both said we hadn’t been with anyone else and picked up UTI antibiotics (nitrofurantoin) for both of us. After we both finished our antibiotic courses our symptoms (burning when peeing, itching, abdominal pain) went away. About a month ago I started bleeding like a heavy period and it didn’t stop until the other day so I went to get checked. My doctor was really sure I had an STD because “men don’t get UTIs” which I know isn’t true. My partner and I are going to get retested at a reputable clinic this week, but I guess I’m wondering if anyone has an opinion? Does it sound like I have chlamydia and my partner cheated? Is it weird at all that the UTI meds treated both of our symptoms? I haven’t been tested since I was 23, could I have had chlamydia this long and have only just now found out? Any (constructive) thoughts are appreciated.
