This is Nova. Nova is a Diva. She's my ❤️ rat. She does what she wants when she wants. She's very sweet. On a scale of Rat (1 being a Pocket Puppy and 10 being a feral chaos potato) she is a 1-4 depending on the time of day while her sister is a solid 9/10. It's amazing how vast their personality can differ.

I really wanted a dog or a cat.
I had to be practical in choosing a pet. I am a 37 y/o introverted male. I live alone. I just moved to a new town in the middle of BFE. I admit to suffer from social awkwardness and struggle with commitment. I've never had a pet of my own despite a love for all animals.
Im finally at a stage in my life I believe im ready to take the leap. I spent an embarrassingly long time researching the best pet for me. I went back and fourth and ultimately decided due to some health limitations that owning a cat or a dog wouldn't be the best decision. I'd never thought of owning a non traditional pet. Especially not a rat like most of my research was pointing to. All my life I've waited for this and I only want 1. 2 is way to much heck, just 1 is bordering too much responsibility for my feeble heart to handle. I'm not going to get an animal just to give it a shitty life and let it become depressed while I use it as a bandaid for my own depression. Most of you reading this already know all of the research demands keeping more than 1 rat. This was a gigantic hurdle for me to overcome it was make or break. "Maybe I'll just get a goldfish". Finally I mustered up the courage to march into that Pet store and request the clerk to retrieve 2 same sex dumbo rat pairs. I told him it didn't matter if it was a boy or a girl just needed to be the same sex for obviously reasons.
I now have 12 rats...
It never even crossed my mind that one of them could be pregnant.
Haven't done an official count yet but I purchased another cage and I intend to keep all of the females.
Ps. If you know of anyone in South Dakota that wants to adopt some male dumbo rats. Let me know.
