Gerbil?

should i get a gerbil? ok yeah yeah i get it, there’s tons of posts on this but most arent very in depth.

I am a high schooler, but im not super busy as of right now. and I am looking for a pet. I was looking into getting a hamster but then i hear that they are very solitary and hate attention. and then i hear that gerbils are easier, they need a friend which is so darn cute, some are more affectionate then hamsters, and they make tunnels which is also super cute lollll

What I wanted to know is if a gerbil would be ok for me. I haven’t picked out a cage yet but i promise to focus on getting a big enough cage for them, and to give them a ton of enrichment but theres just some things i’m worried about.

  1. will they take away from the freedom i have right now?

  2. is it okay to buy them from petsmart (I will check when i get there to make sure that they are friendly) (also, my petsmart sells female gerbils.)

  3. is cleaning the cage a hassle? is spot cleaning gross? or is scooping up bedding gross?

  4. are they easy to tame?

these are just my main questions but if you have ANY thing you would like to mention, please do so!!!!! this is really crucial that i know what im getting my self into.

btw i’ve only ever owned 2 cats before but i dont have them anymore because my dad got too allergic.
