I saw an old thread here asking about the state of school swimming. As a swim instructor, I want to shed some light on why you shouldn't rely on the curriculum alone. The national target is just 25m. Because of funding and time, schools are forced to focus purely on survival: Can the kid get across the pool once? They don't have time to teach proper breathing, stamina, or deep-water confidence. We see so many Year 6 kids who can doggy-paddle 25m but panic if they get splashed. I wrote a quick breakdown on this "25-metre myth" and what to actually look for to ensure your child is safe:https://bluewaveswim.co.uk/blog/25-metre-myth-swimming/ Has anyone else noticed their kids doing school swimming but felt they still wouldn't be fully confident on holidays?
