A while back myself and 2 colleagues (all F, with no children) were talking about our pets and how much we spend on them trying to keep them healthy and happy. A good while in the conversation I said that, even though I love my pets, if I have to choose between saving them from a fire or saving a child, I would go for the child.
I immediately noticed their faces and asked them if they wouldn't do the same.
They both said that they wouldn't save the child, they'd save their pets. Their reasoning was that the child wasn't theirs and their pets are.
I was shocked to say the least. Since then I have a very hard time even speaking to them. I don't know what to say. Nothing feels right.
But obviously they went to the manager to complain about me not being a good colleague, even though I still speak to them, but only the bare minimum about work.
