Completely New to Drones — Am I Overthinking the Rules?
First of all, I’m completely new to drones. I live in London and recently bought a DJI Flip drone, which is under 249g. I’ve got everything sorted — Operator ID and Flyer ID — also my Operator ID for Europe (Bulgarian, since I’m originally from Bulgaria). As far as I understand, it should cover all EU countries.
I went on holiday to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands and got some really epic shots on the dunes and the ocean. After that, I had another holiday in Alicante, Spain, but after checking the Spanish drone maps, I realised Alicante is pretty much a no-fly zone (like a lot of Spain apparently 😅). I've seen many videos in youtube, instagram and facebook flying drone in Alicante I know that before to fly I need to get permission 5 days in advance which for me seems crazy but anyways.
Now I’ve got another holiday coming up in June to Crete, Greece, specifically Stalida. From what I can see on the Greek drone map, it doesn’t look restricted, so hopefully I’ll be able to get some nice footage there too.
The real issue is that I feel like I can’t really use my drone in London. I live in Morden, and when I check different drone maps (DJI Fly, Drone Assist, Dronemap, etc.), some show I can fly there and others show I can’t. I’m also close to Morden Hall Park, and on their website it says drones are not allowed to take off or land on their property.
A few days ago I saw some guys flying the new DJI Lito 1(very similar to my one) there and asked if it was okay to fly. They said yes and that they had flown there the day before for a few hours as well.
Basically, I’m a bit scared to actually use the drone and already spend significant money on extra batteries, ND filters, and accessories.
Am I doing something wrong, or is it just this confusing for everyone when starting out?
PS: really thinking to sell the drone bought it February I will have 2 weeks in Greece to use it and around 3 months in my country Bulgaria when I come to UK I will sell it I take good care of the drone and the controller but seems like I can't have fun with it so sad. I was so exited when they released the DJI Avata 360 but don't have that much 'space' to use it even can't use DJI Flip properly :)
