Manon’s Hiatus
This topic is so overanalysed by now, but I just watched this video from the Katseye youtube channel for the first time. My thoughts on Manon’s hiatus have jumbled quite a bit since the day it was announced, from her possibly leaving, to her health, to possible racism from the company, to a falling out with the other girls.
It could be multiple things simultaneously, but one thing that sticks out to me the most in this video is how Manon talks about her health.
The Weverse message stated that she was on hiatus for health reasons…could this still not be a possibility? Since we know Manon gets sick alot (as demonstrated in this video) I’m wondering if maybe it IS just her health that has sent her into hiatus (mental or physical - perhaps both) and besides the partying and whatnot that she’s been doing in her time off, that everyone’s saying means she *isn’t* on hiatus for health reasons, maybe, just maybe, it is to do with her health. I know in her Weverse message she said ‘things sometimes unfold in ways you can’t control’. But that doesn’t have to mean Manon’s been forced into a hiatus. That can just mean that her health doesn’t allow for her to perform with the girls right now and she needed a break.
I know she’s also told fans that she’s healthy, but that could just be her not wanting to talk about it. Especially if it’s to do with her mental state, I could see her not wanting to express that openly to prying fans when everyone’s already assuming things, making horrid comments, calling her lazy, etc.
And also to cover the last thing that people think means she’s on hiatus for other reasons:
Leigh Anne Pinnock and other black female artists standing by her side, voicing their support. This doesn’t have to mean Manon has faced racism from the company (NOT saying this isn’t the case - wouldn’t put this past a k-pop company or geffen) it could just mean that Manon’s mental health is bad right now because of the racism she experiences online from ‘fans’, which both Leigh Anne Pinnock and Normani faced in similar ways.
What I’m trying to say is: all the speculation into other reasons for Manon’s hiatus are borderline absurd, mostly. I understand the narrative that has been created surrounding possible racism within the company considering Manon’s likes, but that could have been an accidental like. I don’t know if I’m reaching with that one, I just hope Manon didn’t experience racism..obviously.
All in all, I hope Manon is OK and comes back soon. I’m not a massive fan of her but the dog piling on the other girls for something that could be as simple as what was said in the hiatus announcement post is criminal and I hate it. It is sad that she won’t be in this new EP but if she does come back, hopefully she is stronger and better than before.
