Hi there, I am a male in my early 30s. I have had no health issues until about a month and a half ago when I suffered a UTI and bacterial Prostatitis.
It has been a very scary time for me as I hopefully return towards a full recovery and it doesn’t turn into a chronic prostatitis issue what I am very anxious about. It seems very rare in someone of my age and health history without some other underlying issue what isn’t helping my mental health.
Doctors really seem to have no idea how it could have been caused, except that it is E.Coli and may have just been bad luck (what is probably best case scenario rather than something structural or functional.)
The only change in my lifestyle the weeks prior was a major increase in exercise. I went from a daily walk of 2-7kms, to doing one - two of the following each day over two months: 3-5km run, 2km swim, up to 30 mins of yoga, and some light weight training. I always felt fine doing it, although had tight muscles after running especially the legs but just put it all down to pushing myself with new exercise and movements my body wasn’t used to.
Is there any evidence that a tight pelvic floor can contribute to a UTI/prostatitis (rather than the other way around)? As a hypothesis, can it cause you to hold urine for longer time or cause urine reflux back into the bladder or prostate that could move the bacteria?
one other thing that may or may not be related is they my appendix was removed about four years ago. I suffered almost six years of chronic appendicitis flare ups every six weeks creating extremely bad pain that could last days
any advice and help is appreciated.
