Hey y'all, so I'm a bit new to automotive world when it comes to diagnosing things. My dad's brother just had an issue with his truck (the 2009 GMC Sierra).

Here's the list of what happened:

  1. He took it to the car wash
  2. Started noticing issues.
  3. Truck was put into safety mode (slowing the engine down to make sure it doesn't screw itself)
  4. Drove it up the hill to our house
  5. I hooked it up to my scan tool and naturally a lot of DTC's came up (he uses it for hunting, but has been using it as his daily as of recent.
  6. We tried taking it for a test drive, and then all of a sudden the engine stopped. And I don't believe it has ran since.

Here is the list of problems:
- The battery drains way too quickly (it will go from 12.8V~ all the way down to 8-10V~ when disconnected from another vehicle)
- The engine will crank, but won't start.
- And the engine will run in low power/safety mode

Here is what I have done to try and diagnose it:
- Checked fuses (besides the interior fuse box, as I forgot to check those)
- Basic inspection of wires to see if there's any issues
- Replaced battery with a new one (it was a battery my dad had lying around and we just might as well try it to see if it was that.)
- Checked the alternator fuse to see if that went bad (I didn't check the alternator itself, but at this point, I don't think it's the issue)
- We replaced the oil pressure sensor to attempt the original issue that we thought it was, and that still didn't work
- Other than that, I can't think of anything else that we've done to attempt to fix it only because we don't wanna break it anymore than it already is.

Apologies if this seems more like a longer post but I would like to see if I can get some experienced opinions on the matter at hand.

Thank you and have a wonderful rest of your day.
