Mark and Eve's relationship is boring

Now that season 4 is over, I can confidently say that Mark and Eve’s relationship sucks. It’s like, ever since Eve got with Mark, she’s lost so much of her personality. Every interaction is so bland, and I find myself rolling my eyes every time they're on screen. All their interactions are just Mark being sad about something and Eve comforting him on that damn rooftop! Then I look at the season 4 Burger Mart promo, and their dynamic is so fun. They have such great banter and bring so much energy. Then I go watch season 4, and it’s just more of Eve going “No mark, this isn’t your fault. You’re a good person and will never be like your dad?” for 8 episodes.

I think what really started my dislike was during the Titan episode in season 3. After Titan asks for help, Mark goes back to Eve, and she reassures him that not helping Titan is the right move because he might betray them again. Then later, after the Mr. Lui fight, Mark starts on his "this is all my fault" melo drama again, and Eve verbatim says, "It's not your fault, you couldn't have known this would happen." Even though 20 minutes prior, he explained to you what Titan said would happen, and you said he shouldn't trust him. It just feels like all Eve is there to do is comfort Mark after he does some dumb shit.

Ultimately, I think this kinda hurts Eve more than Mark. Despite Mark being depressed and whiny, he still occasionally gets to have cool fight scenes and fun interactions with other characters. Eve doesn’t really get any of that, especially in season 4. Fight-wise, she peaked at 12, and was pretty much powerless for most of her screen time in season 4

Now I’m aware that Mark and Eve doing friendly banter and laughing wouldn’t really be “realistic” with all that's happened to them, or that you don’t need to have cool fights to be compelling. Truthfully, I just think they made them too boring. I can’t find myself interested whenever they have their talks. It’s just gonna be Eve comforting Mark. How does Eve telling Mark she had an abortion flip back to her comforting him and once again saying it's not his fault?! I'm all for having characters act "realistically," but I don't think it should be at the cost of audience enjoyment. There's got to be a way you can write a middle ground, right?

And it feels worse when you compare current Eve to Debbie. Her plots have been consistently interesting, and despite everything that’s happened to her, Debbie's scenes stay filled with emotion or fun dialogue. I was somehow able to get invested in her relationship with Paul, whose whole personality is just “I’m a regular guy.” No fights, no relation to the Viltrum plotline, but somehow I’m hooked. I think season 6 needs to dedicate an episode or sideplot to doing something with their relationship, or at least to doing more with Eve. Maybe she could have her own sideplot, which in turn would give her more to talk about with Mark.
