[IRS] looking for advice paying 1099 taxes

Explanation:

I am a Licensed Social Worker in Ohio. I was hired to a company as a 1099 employee and my first pay (weekly) was 1/9/26.

I read some information when I started that I need to keep my own taxes so I’ve been tracking each pay and keeping back 30% of each pay, which I heard is a good starting point to withhold.

I also heard it’s a good idea to pay taxes quarterly? I think I saw the first payment lines up with when taxes are due, April 15th?

Just wanting to see if these figures are right, do I need to withhold more, is paying quarterly more personal preference and it doesn’t matter? Pretty much any help on this would be so appreciated.

Other info I didn’t know if I needed to include or not:

I make $32/hr and I’m scheduled for 36 hours a week but with cancellations (which I don’t get paid for) I’m typically averaging ~20 hours. Typical pay ends up being in the 610-650 range but if I get a better or worse week it fluctuates.

Any additional info needed, let me know.
