It’s been about 10 days since I’ve removed my wisdom tooth and I thought I’d just share some of my experience and thoughts on it. So from where I’m from it’s not as common to be under general anaesthesia instead you receive local anaesthesia which is the case for me. My bottom right wisdom tooth is impacted (mesial impaction, where one end is poking out and one is pushing against my teeth) and my roots and crown were quite big.
The procedure itself hurt a lot, but that’s also cause my dentist probably didn’t give me enough anaesthesia so after another shot mid procedure, the pain was way less. Also what you feel is mostly pressure instead of actual pain!! The shots don’t really hurt though you might feel a little poking cause most dentists do give a numbing gel first. They also did have to shave my bone a little to be able to access it. So as long as they give you enough anaesthesia (which is mostly the case) there is nothing to worry much about.
After the procedure everything was swollen and I felt quite numb so I mostly ate porridge or drank soup!! And for me I was still swollen for around a week but eating on my left side was okay. It didn’t necessarily hurt as much but the swelling made it quite hard to move my mouth. A week after, I got my stitches removed (most dentists give dissolvable stitches but they booked me for a checkup anyways so she removed the remainder) and it didn’t hurt at all!!! Everything was okay! But since then the area is a little more sensitive and it would hurt when I move my tongue a little and I’ve consulted my dentist abt this and they said it’s normal! So for anyone worrying, it’s normal for your gums to be a little sensitive, a literal tooth did come out after all. But if you’re really worried, consult your dentist, it’ll make you feel a lot better. And the more you pay attention to it the more you feel like it hurts. I think what gets you the most is the constant worrying rather than the pain itself.
