Need Help Deciding: Macbook M5 Pro (48GB / 1TB) OR Macbook M4 Pro (48GB / 1TB)
Hi, I've had my MacBook Air M2 for the past 3 years, and it starts to lag sometimes. Besides that, I bought the simplest version - M2 (8GB / 256GB), so I want to upgrade to a model that I won't need to upgrade for a while, and that will handle all of my tasks without any problems, because my workload will only get heavier.
My main problem is the storage, since 256GB keeps getting full again and again. I've decided to upgrade to 1TB, and for memory, I initially thought about getting 24GB, but then saw a couple of videos, and decided that if I want to stay with it for a while, maybe picking a slightly more pricey version will last longer - the 48GB model.
So my main question is - Should I pick the
MacBook M4 Pro:
12-Core CPU, 16-Core GPU, 1TB SSD Storage, 48GB Unified Memory ~ 2840$
OR
MacBook M5 Pro:
15-Core CPU, 16-Core GPU, 1TB SSD Storage, 48GB Unified Memory ~ 2980$
I know this question sounds stupid, because why wouldn't I add 140$ just to get the new version, with a lot faster SSD write and read speed, and even more CPU cores.
But I saw some videos online saying the M5 Pro isn't really better than the M4 Pro, or something.
And most of the videos didn't even compare the same models with the same storage and memory, so I got really confused and decided to ask here.
My main uses are:
- Editing:
- Premiere Pro
- Davinci Resolve
- Photoshop
- After Effects, including Camera 3D, which my current MacBook can barely handle.
- 4K video editing
- Multitasking
- Recording in GarageBand, big projects, maybe even Logic Pro in the future.
