Would flexing abs hurt if I had a hernia

A few months ago I lifted a decently heavy box with poor form and I felt some pain on my lower right of my abdomen, I was immediately worried about a hernia but never got it checked out, and eventually it went away. I don’t remember having any bulge and eventually the pain faded. A few weeks ago it came back and it’s been lingering a lot. I’m not sure if it is a hernia because again there’s no visible bulging. I’m generally able to cough and perform some ab movements without any noticeable increases in pain or discomfort. If I really had a hernia would I be in pain just from flexing or stretching my abs?
