Do you email companies asking for accountability or change?

I will elaborate :D

in my mature years of 35 I have decided I had enough of companies not being held accountable for their bad practices. So recently, I have been hanging around NCT centre and waiting for my car to get done when I see a whole ass massive bin of doughnuts being thrown away by Krispy Kreme. Now, this hurt me on ethical, ecological, but mostly on emotional level because hot damn that's a lot of wasted doughnuts.

So, I sent an email. They never responded, but I felt like, since I can't hold them accountable in any lawful or financial way, maybe I can do it in a social way.

I just politely enquired about their sustainable disposable practices and asked if they offer surplus in more sustainable ways like too good to go.

I sent a couple more emails to other companies in a similar way and got some bullshit responses. But I kinda feel we all need to question them more in general. So my question is, are you doing it? Do you think we should do it more? Are you going to start doing it?
