I had a conversation with my mom today, and while I couldn't go as ham as I wanted to yet, because she doesn't know I'm doubting.
We discussed homosexuality, and my arguments for why it is okay, and hers against it(She brought the conversation on btw)
Essentially, I threw a little science in there, but mostly hit her with theological arguments like how homosexuality is condemned under the law, which we're not under. How if we're singling out homosexuality then she and I are sinning for having tattoos and she's sinning for wearing different fabrics etc. (Basically the anti-cherry picking argument)
She ended up bringing up how God made man and women and told them to multiply. Which I then asked if reproducing was our purpose then, which she responded with, no, we have three purposes; 1. Reproduce. 2. Take care of the Earth. 3. Love God.
So I asked a follow up question about how my sister maybe wants to get married, but definitely does not want kids, and how that's directly in opposition to purpose 1 there, and one of the earliest commands of God.
To her credit, she really, really tried to walk herself out of calling my sister a sinner for not wanting kids, she really tried. She started saying it's a heart thing, and whatever God lays on your heart. Obviously no Biblical basis for this.
Oh also, in this conversation, I touched on rule 2, and how Christians directly opposing climate protection policies would thereby be considered a sin under that, so you know.....
Slavery was another thing I brought up, the law directly condones slavery, and Paul was good with it too.
As you would expect, she had no good answers for this.
