diabetes is so confusing…

hiii, type 1 diabetic here, its been 6 years now and I’m still not used to this disease. For most of my diabetic life, I sucked at managing it. I was not talking my insulin and I was high ALL the time but… not once did I get into dka up until, I got the flu last year and went into severe dka. It was bad. I was not taking insulin and i was terribly sick. That was until I got my insulin pump and I went from a 14% A1C to a healthy 7%. Now what‘s confusing is now that I’m taking my insulin regularly I feel like I’m always about to be in dka. For example, 2 weeks ago, I felt dka symptoms so I went to the ER and they said nothing was wrong with me, just a little acidic blood. And now as we speak, I have the symptoms again! Although, I had no insulin yesterday and the whole night. My blood sugar was high but then I put in a new pump this morning. But right now, I’m feeling the dka symptoms after having no insulin for one day. So that leads me to the question, why now that I’m healthier and consistent with my insulin am I having more dka hospital visits? It doesn’t make sense when I think back of when I was never taking any insulin consistently. Someone help me make this make sense. 😔
