Hey all. Our three year old has been having escalating nightmares and I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on how to help him with them.
He used to come grab us fairly infrequently (maybe once every few weeks) but it’s now escalated to a couple times a week or so that he’s getting up in the middle of the night saying he had a nightmare. He’s also now nervous to go to sleep and frequently wants us in there with him until he falls asleep.
We’re all losing sleep and I don’t want him to be scared of going to bed or his room. I’m also wondering if he’s making up some of these “nightmares” to be able to have us sit in his room with him/him crawl in bed with us, but obviously don’t want to accuse him of lying or make him feel like he has to earn our presence.
We made a dreamcatcher with him and a sign for his door that says “no intruders allowed! mind your manners!”.
Anyone have any advice? We dealt with this with our older kids a bit but nowhere near this extent.
