Hey all,
I am currently on an NCL cruise and just had a near death experience due to an allergic reaction.
Yesterday afternoon, my girlfriend and I went to get lunch in the buffet and I saw a stew that looked good. I checked the label and the dish didn’t have any allergen labels on it (I took a picture of the label) and ate the dish. I took about 4 or 5 bites before I noticed my lips and face were starting to swell and I was feeling unwell. Tell tail signs I’m having an allergic reaction. I used my fork to look around in the dish and saw that what I thought were tiny pieces of chicken were actually cashews which I am allergic to. I’ve never eaten a cashew before so I had no idea what my reaction was going to be. The few times I’ve had reactions to other nuts I just got a little sick and the last time I had a reaction was like 7 or 8 years ago. I was diagnosed with my allergies when I was a baby so I’ve lived with them my whole life and am pretty good about avoiding allergens.
It turns out, I am deathly allergic to them. I don’t have the best insurance so I originally just tried to power through the reaction. However, once it was getting to the point where my face was swelling up with hives, my lips were turning blue, and I started wheezing I ordered my girlfriend to use my EpiPen (she didn’t end up using it) and we rushed to the cruise’s ER.
I just got out of the ER and now I am super scared of what’s to come next. I know I’m about to get slapped with a 5-6 grand bill that is going to financially set me back quite a bit. A bill that’s the cruise ships fault that I’m hoping I can convince them to waive but knowing these corporate goons, probably not.
I’m always very careful with my allergies and I know NCL is very very good with allergies which is part of why I booked with them. I’ve been on their cruises several times and have never had any problems at their buffets because they label everything very well.
Idk I’m gonna update this post as time goes on but this whole experience has been miserable and I know I’ve probably got a long battle ahead of me.
