Frustrating Experience Applying for a Delhi Circuit MUN

So, I was quite excited about this MUN happening in Delhi, and since my town is quite close to it, I enthusiastically decided to participate!

So, I applied well in advance specifically to secure one of my preferred portfolios. And since then, I had been consistently following up with the organizers, but each time I was told that allotments were being delayed because of their school’s annual function. Even until this morning, the matrix showed that only a handful of portfolios had been filled. Then suddenly, this afternoon, I received a call informing me that both of my preferences had already been taken. I was quite surprised, especially since I had been checking the matrix regularly every single day, and now, almost every portfolio appeared to be filled at once. Naturally, I questioned how that was even possible!

I then requested that I at least be considered for another portfolio from the remaining unallotted options, but I was refused on the grounds that I “didn’t have enough experience” since I’ve attended only one MUN so far.

That reasoning honestly felt quite absurd to me, especially considering I would be travelling nearly 300 km just to attend this conference, and I did quite well in my first! The very least the organizers could have done was allot me a portfolio I actually felt confident representing and defending.

What made the situation even more frustrating was that this wasn’t an exceptionally competitive committee to begin with, it was something relatively straightforward like UNEP. Yet despite that, the same justification kept being repeated. And to top it all off, I was casually told that I should still attend because they would have “good food and air conditioning.”

Overall, the entire experience felt incredibly unprofessional and frustrating.

So, I was wondering if this is a common practice in Delhi circuit MUNs? To allot portfolios on the basis of "experience"? Then why bother asking for preferences at all? Or should at least mention these are of limits for newbies.

UNGA/DISEC How Tos?

Hi, all!

I'll be participating in my first UNGA/DISEC committee, and wanted to understand the overall approach usually expected in such committees, especially wrt speeches.

My agenda is: Assessing the risk of nuclear war and its impact on international peace and security in light of rising tensions between Iran and Israel, and I'm yet to decide on the portfolio.

First, regarding the GSL, how an ideal GSL for a UNGA/DISEC looks like? Are delegates expected to be more aggressive and confrontational, more solution-oriented, focused mainly on their country’s existing policies and actions, or is it usually a balanced mix of all of these? If latter, then roughly what should a strong GSL ideally contain in terms of stance, diplomacy, criticism, past actions, and solutions? I also wanted to know how DISEC/UNGA GSLs differ from GSLs in more general committees.

Similarly, for mod speeches, what exactly is expected of a delegate?

Any additional tips regarding speaking style, bloc dynamics, or overall strategy in UNGA/DISEC committees would also be really appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi, everyone!

I’ll be participating in a CCC (Continuous Crisis Committee) MUN for the first time, and I wanted to understand how it differs from the regular ones.

The agenda is: Economic Doomsday: The Hormuz Strait Naval Blockade and the Crash of Global Energy.

So, what exactly is expected from delegates in a crisis committee? I’ve heard that it’s more fast-paced and more aggressive, but I’m not entirely sure what that looks like in practice.

Specifically, how should one approach GSL and mod speeches in such committees? How much emphasis should be placed on defending your country’s stance versus critiquing or pressuring other countries, and how much should go into proposing solutions?

I was also told to be “more aggressive” in this format, what does that typically mean? Is it about rhetoric, strategy, directives, or something else?

If anyone could give a general breakdown or share tips/experiences, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi!

It's gonna be my first MUN, so if someone could please take a look at my GSL and suggest areas where I can improve?

My committee is UNCSW with the agenda: Deliberation on the legalization of sex work and prostitution, focusing on human rights, socio-economic impacts, legal frameworks, and strategies for regulation to ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of sex workers; and I'm representing China.

GSL:

“Fùnǚ néng-dǐng bàn-biān-tiān”

“Women hold up half the sky”, a vision once imagined by Chairman Mao for women of China, and women everywhere. Yet today, about 42 M are crushed under that very sky, pushed by poverty and patriarchy, into a brutal reality the West dares to call CHOICE!

Hon’ble Chair, esteemed delegates!

We are not a nation that legalises exploitation, nor one that bans it and then fails to enforce its own laws. Consider this: Kris Wu, a global K-pop idol from EXO. A Canadian national, where aspects of prostitution are legal, and a star rose in South Korea, where it is criminalised; yet when faced with sex crime charges, both systems fell short. But, China, it acted. Guided by the strength of Article 301, delivering a firm 13-year sentence.

Guided by the Beijing Framework and the Palermo Protocol, China’s Anti-Trafficking Action Plan has cut online procurement by 35 and sex trafficking by 78 percent, all while rehabilitating over 120,000 sex workers through the New Life Programme.

China therefore urges UN-led global cooperation with a dual approach: crackdown on illegal networks, while rehabilitating victims; driven by tech, defined by zero tolerance for exploiters.

Thank you!

Hi!

I’m currently in 10th grade, and planning to move to ALLEN Kota for JEE prep in 11th. I had a few queries regarding that, and would really appreciate it if someone studying there, or who has studied there, could answer a few of these:

  1. Are batches there co-ed, or are there separate timings for boys and girls? What are the daily timings, and how many hours of classes you have each day?

  2. Do any batches start before April, like in Jaipur?

  3. Is there any batch reshuffling? How can one ensure getting into a top batch at admission and then, later on?

  4. What exactly is a TOPS batch? Are SRG batches different from the ones you get in reshuffling?

  5. About how many students are there in one batch?

  6. How does the doubt counter system work? Are they prompt?

  7. I have very weak eyesight (-16), so it’s hard for me to see from the back.

Would they allow me to sit in the front regularly if I make a request?

  1. Which schools provide dummy schooling, and is it possible to attend a few days to catch up on extra subjects?

  2. Till when is the 11th, and 12th syllabus is completed?

TIA!
