Common law marriages

So common law marriages don’t exist in Ireland but the cohabitation act does which states of you have a child after 2 years they can have claim to property, house, maintenance. Is this not common law marriages? Even if you don’t have a child with a partner, if you live together for 5 years they can make a claim to your assets.

As a single person who has a house, career and savings this absolutely terrifies me.

Are these cases taken to court regularly and won?
