Hey everyone,

For the past month or so I’ve been getting random GPU driver timeouts that make most games unplayable. The card worked fine for the first ~4 months after I got it. The problem started roughly around the time of recent drivers.

My setup:

  • GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16GB
  • CPU: i7-12700KF
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4
  • PSU: 1000W SeaSonic
  • OS: Windows 11

Games run fine at first, then at random I get driver timeouts. Temps are good, I have a solid fan curve, and the card doesn’t thermal throttle. No artifacts or stability issues in benchmarks.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Clean driver uninstall with DDU in Safe Mode + fresh install
  • Disabled Windows automatic driver updates
  • Disabled Multi-Plane Overlay
  • Disabled hardware acceleration (Discord, browsers, etc.)
  • Increased TDR timeout in Registry
  • Checked all connections and confirmed good PSU cables

The issue shows up in Event Viewer. Symptoms are usually one of these:

  • Driver timeout → short lag/stutter, game continues
  • Driver timeout → game crashes + black screen for a few seconds
  • Rare but worst case: screens go completely black, PC is still running (I can hear game sound + talk in Discord), but no signal to monitors. Have to force shutdown with power button.

I really don’t think this is a hardware problem since it started suddenly after months of good performance and everything runs cool/stable otherwise.

Anyone had such issues and has found fixes that actually worked?

Thanks in advance for any help.
