To give some context, O2, about to go to staff in the coming months and about halfway through the ROTC contract commitment. I finished my Masters in December and am thankful the guard paid for that and my undergrad. My civilian job pays for my family health insurance plan, I dumped Tricare after they screwed up my some of my sons bills and I had to pay out of pocket. I have tried to move to units closer to home and to promote (2.5 hours away currently) with vacancies and my BDE would not release me (what my BN XO told me), which the OPTEMPO would also be nice to have MUTA 4s rather than MUTA 6 and 8s. My unit is also mobing right as my contract goes up and frankly I don’t really want to go (but would if I had to). Sometimes I think it would be awesome to be an O4/O5 and actually try to make a difference for the younger generation that run into issues like I have, sometimes I think I’ll just run through the motions and get out when I can.
So my point is, I feel as though I’ve used the benefits I can use, I’m not close to home, OPTEMP of my unit is not what I want, and I’m married with a two year old and one due this summer which continually becomes burdensome for the wife.
TLDR: Those with families why have you stayed in?
