My wife and I are heading to TCI from April 25th to 30th to celebrate our honeymoon! We will be staying at a villa near the golf course, close to Leeward Beach on Grace Bay.
I have a couple of questions I would love to get some local insight on:
1. Airport Transfers
I have read in this subreddit that airport transfers are government regulated and cost approximately $20 per person (so around $80 round trip for the two of us). However, I reached out to a local private transport company and they quoted me around $140 total, with the pick-up being the more expensive leg. We also asked for a quote to get from our villa to Sapodilla Bay, and they quoted $50 each way (both persons).
Are these prices normal? Is it better to just grab a taxi at the airport? Does anyone know a reliable private driver who might offer better rates?
2. Freediving / Snorkeling at Grace Bay
I am not PADI certified, but I do practice freediving and I am comfortable swimming far from shore — back home in the Balearic Islands it is never an issue. Are there any specific things I should be aware of in TCI? Currents? Marine life to watch out for? I am also not sure whether the beaches have designated safe swimming areas.
