r/Ottawa, what are your impressions on Kiweki Point?

I remember reading some articles from the news, as well as some prior threads on Reddit. There was the loss of an auditorium near the National Art Gallery (at the back of the property), and it was replaced with a couple of large stones. They didn’t add any bathrooms or food spots, although there’s the NCC bar and bathrooms across the bridge. The pathway design means that people often walk on the grass in order to walk up to the upper platform, which I find defeats the purpose of the site’s design

with that being said, I personally believe that it’s been a massive success. There’s no events that take place here, but the views are excellent and there’s always a good crowd here, sitting, chatting and enjoying the views. It was massively crowded last summer on the final day of the Firework festival, and every time that I go I love seeing people using the space. A great “third space”, especially since so much of modern Ottawa (downtown and ByWard Market) encourages you to walk around, instead of just sitting and enjoying the space. I look forward to the opening of the new park adjacent to the Supreme Court of Canada, later this year!!
