Why is there such a big difference in the double bass punch in live YouTube video recordings from audience members? In most Metallica live videos, the crash/china cymbals almost overpower the bass drums, so the “punch in the gut” feeling is nearly gone. Having seen them live many times, I know the kick drums absolutely hit hard in person — you can really feel them physically — but that impact rarely translates well in the live recordings. But I almost only see it with Metallica.
And it’s not just because it’s a live recording. With other bands — for example Rammstein, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive, and many others — you can still clearly feel that heavy bass drum impact in your chest and stomach when listening on a good sound system, even in live videos.
Is it only me who noticed this? ☺️ Anyone know why this is and is there actually a reason that explains it?
Have a great weekend
