My 3-year-old KegCo HK-38 will sometimes hit its target temp of 40 degrees, but more often will jump up to 54 and everywhere in between.

I've already replaced the gasket, adjusted the door and used childproof locks to ensure a tight seal (no light leaks).

I replaced the fan inside as well. But the issue remains.

I discovered through THIS THREAD from years back that this model is known to have a refrigerant microleak and many people found success through recharging the refrigerant. However, could this still potentially be my issue considering the Kegerator is capable of hitting my target temperature, even though it often doesn't stay there? Or does the variance rule out refrigerant?

If it is worth attempting a refrigerant solve, I am also desperate for some guidance, and no one who has solved the issue in that old thread has responded to my DMs. I got the charging hose/gauge, piercing valve, and refrigerant described in that thread. But, I'm not sure which line to install the piercing valve on, nor do I know how much refrigerant to add: is it based on system pressure I read with the gauge? Or do I have to somehow remove existing refrigerant and then add the exact amount needed in ounces using a scale? Lots can go wrong here, obviously. Seems a lot of people have figured it out, but can't get answers from anyone.

Thanks so much in advance!
