How to effectively to save money for a car as a teen?
I (17F) want to buy a (used) car this summer. I also want to save (and make) as much money as I possibly can. I plan to work at an art studio 4 days a week, 4 hours each day. I don’t think it’s that high paying of a job but a job is a job. I think my biggest questions are:
1.How do I split up saving and spending money?
2. What are some things I can do to efficiently save money?
3. What are some reliable cars that a 17yo could use daily and where could I get them?
I’ve heard of things like a high yield savings account so I get interest on the money that I save. I want a car because I don’t like having to rely on my parents for travel. When they drive me, I’m typically late to everything and I hate that. We dont really do anything and honestly it gets kind of depressing. A teenager doesn’t want to be in the house ALL of the time. Do I have my license yet? No (sadly). I don’t feel comfortable taking the test yet because I haven’t actually practiced parking (I can drive on a road just fine tho) and it’s so hard to schedule the test. My parents just tend to shrug me off when I ask for them to take me out driving or when I ask for driving lessons. I have been grilling them hard about taking me out so I can get my license this summer. (I’ve had my permit for almost a year😑).
I would ask for one of our cars that we have now but they always have something wrong with them. Or at least when car is fine, something is wrong with the other car and vice versa. We have about 4 cars total (2 in use, 2 need fixing and the stuff too). A used car won’t necessarily be better but it would be mine. My parents have said that they would help pay for some of the car. I also know gas has gotten VERY expensive and I’ll need car insurance.
Please help a teen out🙏
