PC crashes on certain games, even low-demand ones
Hi everyone,
I've been struggling with this issue for about 2 years now. My computer tends to crash in a pretty violent way after a few minutes on certain games; my monitors go black, the PC gets super loud (I’m assuming the fans are overworking due to overheating, but I could be wrong), and I have to hold the power button to shut it down.
Here’s the weird part; I can play graphically intense, brand-new games on ultra settings with no issues, but some games with lower graphical requirements will crash my PC within minutes.
The first crash I noticed was in Outer Wilds, near the beginning of the game upon interacting with the statue. Since then, it’s become more frequent with games like Phasmophobia and Subnautica. I used to be able play these games on high settings without issues before the first crash. I can sometimes avoid crashes by lowering the graphics settings, but even with low settings, certain games can still cause a full shutdown- it's not a performance drop, the PC just shuts off.
Games I’ve noticed crashing my PC include:
- Phasmophobia
- Subnautica
- F1 25
- BMX Streets
- Outer Wilds
There are probably more (e.g., Battlefield, VRChat, or Arc Raiders), but I crash less frequently on those. Interestingly, when the PC crashes, people can still hear me over Discord and I can hear them, which is odd.
Here are my specs (probably more than needed, but just in case):
- Keyboard: Corsair K100 Platinum
- Mouse: Razer Basilisk v3
- Headphones: Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro X
- Microphone: HyperX Quadcast
- Monitors: Asus TUF Gaming VG30VQL1A Ultrawide 200hz, Acer R241Y 60hz (x2)
