Storytelling through camera angles

A big theme in the ending of DR2 is the idea of an uncertain future that Hajime is forced to confront at the end of the game and how it links to his own insecurities

This is portrayed best in the FINAL image of DR2 where the camera angle used creates a foward-facing perspective. What this may symbolise is:

•Shift in ideology for Hajime. He’s no longer running away from his past or insecurities. He’s actively confronting the future. Refusing to be scared or intimidated by the future, he is now looking forward

•Another effect the “foward-facing perspective” creates is that his face is hidden. This may symbolise the uncertainty of his future. Hajime acknowledges the unpredictability of his own future. He doesn’t know what to expect from his own future however he’s come to term with that idea. He is no longer going to run away

But my favourite part of this image is how it directly contrasts the nightmare Hajime gets of his past during chapter 3.

The image of his past is a direct contrast to the final image of DR2. The camera angle is positioned highly, creating the perspective of the player looking down onto Hajime. Portraying Hajime as being quite vulnerable and powerless. His face further reveals how emotional he actually is, he tries his best to keep his calm throughout the game however we eventually see it crack in trial 6.

DR2 is my favourite game in the franchise. I love how it can use the smallest details like camera angles to portray the development of Hajime. Hajime’s battle with his self-esteem is not only realistic but resolved really well which is why i love his character sooo much

The 7 deadly sins of danganronpa characters

My personal list for which danganronpa character represent which sin

IMPORTANT⚠️⚠️: List is crafted THEMATICALLY. Wanted to challenge myself more but i also wanted to think more deeply about characters that i usually don’t. So don’t expect Teruteru for lust or Akane for gluttony 😭

BYAKUYA: Feels fairly obvious. His entire character is centred around his pride of his power and status. Even when his family is destroyed. It’s his pride that props himself up again and is what motivates him to defy the killing game.

MAKI: This one is definitely interchangeable with a few characters. However her cold blooded and ruthless nature in trial 5 lands her here. She was so blinded with wrath she indirectly killed the person she looked up to and would then use the trial to further carry out her wrath against kokichi.

HAJIME: Once again fairly obvious. His envy of others people talent is what brang him to Hope’s peak. He willingly lobotomised himself just so he could satisfy his own envy of finally feeling equal to Chiaki

TSUMUGI: Her lust for danganronpa is the entire foundation of V3. She admired the idea of the killing game so much that she eventually became of the victim of it. Her lust of danganronpa is also what got her killed

NAGITO: His entire character is about the consumption of hope. He constantly is pushing the limits of everyone to feed on the hope of the ultimates. His never ending satisfaction for hope earns him gluttony.

HIMIKO: In chapters 1/2 she shows her slothful nature by refusing to cooperate and develop meaningful relationships with the entire cast. It’s only after the death of tenko/angie in of which she evolves from her slothful nature. By becoming more optimistic and involved

CELESTIA: Her “survival of the fittest” mindset is inherently greedy and selfish. Her actions are purely motivated for her own self gain and she shows little sympathy in her actions towards others. The embodiment of greed

Honourable mentions:
Kyoko (Pre-Makoto)- Wrath
Kokichi- Greed
Mukoro- Lust
Fuyuhiko- Pride
Mikan- Lust

Most of these guys can also fit but the 7 chosen (imo) fit better. I’m sure the comments can think of better ones. Tryna do more posts like these cause i love this series so much ✌️❤️

Best foreshadowing in the series

I know this trial gets glazed sooo much by danganronpa fans but this trial was sooo incredible.

I’ve been replaying through chapters in danganronpa and i never realised the basis of Nagito’s entire murder plan was foreshadowed in chapter 4.

In chapter 4 while we control Nagito in the final dead room. Nagito willingly makes Russian roulette harder for himself by decreasing his odds of surviving to 1/6.

Nagito (the conniving bastard) would reciprocate the same idea in his murder plan. He’d create a murder in of which 1/6 students would unknowingly throw the fire grenade and become the blackened.

Essentially forcing Hajime and the others to play the same game of Russian roulette that he played. One in which they only have a 1/6 chance of guessing the correct student.

Danganronpa is full of these small moments that really show how well-thought out the story actually is and this entire trial is the embodiment of that

Why Makoto is the Ultimate Hope

A list of Junko’s crimes btw:

•Creating “The Tragedy,” the worldwide collapse of civilization.

•Ran a killing game that was broadcasted to the entire world

•Brainwashing Class of 77 into destroying the world

•Continuing her plans even after death through an AI copy of herself.

•Killed Chiaki

Makoto a better man than me cause tf you mean you don’t want the person who destroyed all your families, friends and loved ones to survive

My personal Ranking would be

  1. DR2

2.UDG

3.THH

4.V3

•DR2 is my favourite game in the franchise and i think the ending is one of the biggest reasons why. Hajime overcoming his despair and fighting back against Junko always gives me chills. Also solidified Chiaki as one of my favourite characters

•As weird as UDG was i really did love the ending. Toko and Komaru has one of the best dynamics in the franchise and i think the ending exemplifies it really well. UDG really redeemed Toko’s character and it’s best portrayed in the ending

•THH has a solid ending. I don’t really have much else to say. The Junko surprise is really good however after that it kinda becomes a big lore dump. I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all but it doesn’t really hit the super high emotional notes compared to DR2/UDG

•Though i’m not an avid hater of V3’s ending, i do think it is the worst ending. The “everything is a show” plot twist is definitely shocking however it feels quite random. If it was foreshadowed just slightly more (such as shuichi investigating more on his own like kyoko to find clues about the killing game) it would’ve felt like a more satisfying conclusion. Tsumigi is fine as a villain, if she played a more prominent role in the killing game i probably would enjoy her character more. Though i do think the ending of v3 fits REALLY well with the themes of v3 (truth vs lies) so i don’t think it deserves all the hate it gets. Tbh i’d understand if this would be 1st as i do think it’s a really good ending in concept but i personally feel like it could’ve been executed better
