I’m overseas with Wi-Fi only and no usable cellular service. For several weeks, I was able to send/receive SMS texts over Wi-Fi, but two days ago it suddenly stopped working.

Wi-Fi Calling is already turned on, and I haven’t changed any phone, carrier, SIM/eSIM, or Wi-Fi settings.

This is causing issues because I can’t receive SMS 2FA codes for banking/retirement apps.

Has anyone had this happen? Any idea why SMS over Wi-Fi would randomly stop working, and how to restore it without cellular service?

I am currently deployed in an area that qualifies for the Combat Zone Tax Exclusion, so my military pay is tax-free right now.

I’m trying to understand the best TSP strategy while I’m here. Would it make sense to temporarily set my TSP contribution to 0% so I can take home 100% of my tax-free pay, instead of contributing to TSP and potentially paying taxes on withdrawals later?

Or is there a better strategy, such as contributing to Roth TSP while my income is tax-free?

Just trying to understand the pros/cons before making any changes. Thanks.
