Missed the pickaxe at the beginning of the game? Lol

Game is a 10/10 so far otherwise, but the fact that if you miss grabbing the pickaxes in the prologue or early Act 1 (the beginning of the damn game), you'll need to wait a decent amount of time before being able to buy one from a merchan, is absolutely ridiculous. There are a huge amount of places you'll explore/can explore before getting to the first merchant where you'll NEED a pickaxe if you want the ore you come accross...

Literally forced me to quit and restart the entire 3 hours of playtime because there are no damn pickaxe to be found in any of the mines, caves, or crates. Absolutely insane they released it like this. Just saying!

Guys I fucking did it!

I woke up this morning feeling like I should give it another go and guess what....I finally got one! Small little guy, probably ~4" or less. I then casted out and caught another one slightly bigger! I honestly could have stayed at that spot and kept catching more, but after catching the first one I was mentally and physically exhausted from the previous all day session lol.

How I caught it: I went to the same beach as yesterday (South Ponto Beach) but this time it was incoming low tide instead of incoming high tide. I also decided to walk further down the beach until I found a spot that was so blatantly obvious it was a deep cut/channel that even a noob like me could spot it and casted from there, and WAM, literally caught both on the first and second casts. Also, I shortened my leader to 2ft from 3ft, used a 3/4oz sinker instead of a 1oz, and did a slightly lower retrieve than I had been doing on the C-rig yesterday. I stuck with the 2" camo sandworms. All of this seemed to have paid off.

Thank you to this community for dealing with my little cry session yesterday and for being positive in your responses. Tight lines all!

Edit: Post I made last night crying like a 4 year old:

[Rant] I love surf fishing, but it just doesn't love me

I've gone out about six times now, SKUNKED each time. Today, I fished literally the entire day (took PTO at work just to do this). I'm new, yea, I know. BUT, I've also been surf fishing in Florida another 5-6 times and also got skunked. I've tried different beaches, times, tides, baits, retrieves, walking the entire beach, staying at the same spot, casting far, casting short...etc. etc. Heck, the only thing I haven't tried at this point is bait and wait, but that's not really interesting to me.

Two weekends ago, I even was fishing where this one dude was pulling out perch left and right, right next to me. I asked him what he's using and what he recommends I use/do instead. He checked my setup and said he's using basically the same setup I am, down to the pole, reel, line, and bait (Carolina rig). He even watched me fish and said "yep, just keep doing that and you'll catch one!". He then proceeded to catch a few more while I continued to catch nothing but kelp/seagrass.

At this point, I'm going to just have to come to terms with the fact the God, the universe, Poseidon, whatever, just DOES NOT want me to ever catch a single fish in any body of saltwater on Earth.

I've watched every YouTube video about SoCal surf fishing (Hook2Cook, Benjie Kim, etc.). I've meticulously studied their every tip, trick, and technique. I've also read through Nick Heid's "Surffishingsocal.com" site countless times. I've downloaded a few apps to check the fishing condition forecasts and religiously used surf-forecast.com to monitor the wave energy and wind to make sure I set myself up for success as much as possible.

I've been a freshwater fisherman my whole life, and yea, skunk days happen from time to time, it comes with the nature of the sport. But, even on "skunk" days on a lake/river, you usually end up with at least one little guy or one that got loose when you get him close to the bank.

Sorry for the rant. I know its annoying/whiny. I just needed somewhere to put this because honestly, I'm so angry/frustrated for wasting so much time/money on this to literally not catch a single fucking thing. I'm taking a long break from this hobby. I won't say for good, because I probably will get the itch again...but I'm done for a bit.
