I have a 2002 Honda CRV LX 2WD with ~260k miles on it. I was told about 11 months ago that my outer tie rod and suspension/steering needed to be replaced. The exact note was "Front sway bar end links have significant play. Rec new ones. Outer Tie Rod End Boot is blown out sides. Front right.". They said since I wasn't hearing any clunking when I turned that it wasn't urgent but now I am so I figure I shouldn't put it off any longer.
I'm a broke college student so I'm wondering how hard it would be to just do it myself? I watched a few videos and it seems pretty straight forward but I imagine with my car being so high milage I'll have to fight more to get parts off. I know I'll still have to pay for an alignment but can I do the rest on my own? The biggest car repair I've done was changing the struts on my old Nissan so I have some experience but not a ton. From what I'm seeing online I could get all the parts I need in a kit for like $75 or get them individually for like $110 and that would allow me to change the inner and outer tie rods on both sides along with the sway bar end links. With the alignment and extra tools I'd be looking at $300-$400 vs if I take it to the shop it'd be about $1100 to do the same.
