How does commitment work to promote self control?

I'm confused.. our definitions are...

Commitment: A self-control strategy where a response can remove the option of smaller, sooner rewards.

Self Control: Choosing larger, later rewards over smaller, sooner rewards.

If someone could help me understand this, that would be great!!

To those (or parents) who have stayed in Oswald or self on daisy hill, how much were you charged for paint coming off the wall / a hole from hanging stuff up? I did two damages, smaller than a fist.
