I just recently got my hands on an Akai 1722ii.

My aim is to record my final mixes to the tape, but I’m having some issues.

I can get the sound to come through, I can see the meters jumping, and it looks like it’s recording. But when I playback I hear nothing, or it’s very very very low.

Am I overlooking something?

Do I need to string the tape differently?

And finally, is there still value in me just running the sound thru the machine and back out — basically just using it for color?

How are y’all incorporating it if the recording mechanism doesn’t work?
