TIL that Patrick Kilonzo Mwalua, a pea farmer in Kenya, spent his own money renting a truck to drive 50+ km multiple times a week to fill dry watering holes for wild animals during drought. He once arrived to find 500 buffalo waiting. A GoFundMe raised nearly $500,000 for his work.
It started in November 2016 when Mwalua saw a buffalo sniffing at an empty water hole and decided he had to act. He fills a tanker with 3,000 gallons of fresh water and drives hours into the savannah to fill bone-dry watering holes for elephants, buffalo, antelope, and zebras.
