Not seeking advice but a legal question about grandparents rights.

LOCATION: FL

I just read a post about someone having to adhere to a court order requiring to let grandparents have visitation every few weeks and Zoom calls weekly. My question is this: why is that even a thing? If parents don’t want to have their children have contact with ANYONE is should be taken as gospel and not something that can be court ordered.

To me, who’s not a lawyer, this seems like a severe overreach of laws and a slippery slope. Who’s to say a desperate mother wants a daughter, an only child, to produce grandchildren when the daughter wants to be child free. Considering female autonomy is getting stripped away gradually, and the way this country is now, this could conceivably be tried. Any insights?

Something happened today that reminded me of something that happened about a month ago.

So what happened today…

Two women came in and they were the annoyingly obnoxiously bubbly people and thought they were funny. I was working In Store Pickup(ISP) and was trucking around at a fast pace. I’m 6’4” and can gain a head of steam when pushing an easily 80lb cart unloaded. This cart was loaded and can’t exactly stop on a dime even unloaded. One of the women, as I’m approaching and wanting to turn down an aisle, suddenly puts her arms out like a goddamn crossing guard and stops me almost sending a $250 case of wine crashing to the floor. No sorry. No acknowledgement of her fuckery. Just “Where’s the Bailey’s” I tell her where it is my most pleasant yet annoyed customer service voice. She walks off. Cool cool. 20 minutes later I finish picking what I need and now the cart is easily 300lb. I’m heading back to ISP and round the corner and I see her again. We lock eyes and I don’t stop but I hear “Hey! Stop stop stop stop stop!” I stop to the detriment of my hips and shoulders and just glance over my shoulder.

“Where’s the snack aisle?”

“Aisle 16 but you obviously don’t need anymore” was what my brain wanted to say but it came out as just aisle 16 and I walked away.

The audacity

So what happened a month ago…

I get a call on the radio that a customer needs a case brought up to customer service. Routine. Go fetch it and bring it up. The MOD who called for it said the customer is shopping for other shit and said to put it down on the counter. Cool cool. There was a customer leaning on the counter on his knuckles like a Neanderthal next to where I was gonna put it down but not in any way in my way. He pulled his hands back like I was personally gonna crush his hands. Whatever. Dude finds me in an aisle and lays into me.

You know it’s common courtesy to say excuse me when your getting in my way

……

You know what common courtesy is yes?

Of course

You should learn some

I shot a look at his wife and she gave me a mortified look and eye roll. I look at him and said duly noted and turned my back to them. Heard him mutter something about people nowadays. I so wanted to turn around and tell him you’re the person you’re complaining about.

People are to peopley
